Monthly Fishing Guide

Jan, Feb, March and April  - Regarded as a great time to cast a line and everyone always brings home plenty of fish. These warmer months provide consistent catches of King George whiting with plenty of additional schools of garfish, snook, mackerel and bluecrabs. Snapper are also available on known spots and there is always a chance to bag a trophy size 10kg or better for those organizing one of our “specialist” snapper trips. March and April are two personal favorite months to fish and can provide the calmest conditions to fish.

April, May and June – If you want good King George whiting and predictable weather conditions this is the peak period for Adelaide metropolitan waters, as large schools of whiting arrive early April and stay right through into the winter months.

These cooler months regularly provide boat limit catches and the fishing can be so good that it’s not uncommon for local clients to book multiple times in the course of a few weeks. Other species available include salmon trout, snapper, squid and snook. ( av size KG whiting 34-36cm – larger fish 40/42cm ) – a great time to book a trip

July, August, September – reliable winter whiting fishing and the weather is often very cold but still pleasantly calm on the water. Other fish species encountered include squid, salmon trout and reef fish. The average whiting size is generally larger than the summer fish with most fish measuring around 34 to 38cms - plus there’s always the chance for a number of fish over 40cms.

Our ½ day fishing packages are popular during these months, as the whiting usually bite hard and fast around selected times and boat limits are often captured in quick time. “Winter equals great whiting fishing”

October, November, December, January – October and November are exciting months to fish as new schools of summer whiting arrive on our shallower grounds. Depending on the season, legal size whiting usually taper off with the heat of December but the warmer water also means the arrival of all our summer species.

Bluecrabs, mackerel, snapper, squid, small sharks, herring, garfish and snook are all now on the target list. The average size whiting is smaller than during winter but the arrival of the numerous summer species ensures exciting fishing. Kids and families love the summer variety of fish and the timings perfect for something to do during the extended school holidays.

For those wanting whiting we escape the recognized shallower coastal grounds and usually head for the deeper whiting grounds. Once in the deeper water we adopt specialist drift fishing techniques and take advantage of the early morning calm conditions. The whiting captured are good size and worth the effort.
